Lady Gaga is set to release her seventh studio album in February.
Despite lead single Disease stalling on the Hot 100 at No.
27, the 38-year-old is forging ahead with her next album,
which she described as both ‘fun’ and ‘darker.’
Speaking to Vogue magazine about the project, Gaga
said that she’s been focused on the production side of her new
songs.
‘I love producing — I always have — and something that was really important to me making my
seventh studio album was blending live instrumentation with programming,’ she
explained.
‘The album is chaotic from a genre perspective — it is genre-bending, and
I think in that way is a deeply personal look into
my mind as a producer and the way I think about music.’
She also said that the album has a ‘darker pop’ sound that’s more in line
with her iconic 2009 album, The Fame Monster.

‘The album is not extremely serious in that it’s very fun and meant to

A billionaire couple have won the right to remove a
single tree from the driveway of their lavish $20million mansion after being blocked by their local
council.
Paul Holmes a Court, the son of Australia’s first billionaire Robert Holmes
a Court, and his wife Zara had been at loggerheads with their local council over a
request to remove a single peppermint tree growing in the middle of
their driveway.
The couple bought the four-bedroom mansion in the affluent, tree-lined suburb
overlooking Perth’s Freshwater Bay for $20.1million in August.
They wanted to remove the tree but the Shire of Peppermint Grove refused the request on the grounds the tree was not dead or deceased.
‘We are very lucky to live here, but I have to say that the tree placement
is unusual,’ Ms Holmes a Court previously told a council meeting.
‘I’m quite a reasonable and rational person, but a tree in the middle of the
driveway makes it quite tricky to reverse out.’
The couple enjoyed a breakthrough at a council meeting last week after an alternative motion was unanimously passed
that allowed the tree to be removed on the condition they paid a $2,500 bond before any work was
done on the driveway.
They will also need to plant two replacement trees on their property.

Ms Holmes a Court previously claimed the tree’s odd placement also made it difficult to spot cars turning
the corner at a nearby intersection with Bay View Terrace.
After the motion to remove the tree was passed at the meeting, councillor Douglas Jackson said
it was a ‘good outcome’.
‘I think it meets both the owners’ wants, or expectation, but also matches the council’s needs at the same time by ensuring that there is tree cover on the verge of that property,’
he said.
Peppermint Grove is hoping to implement a policy that
would even make it an offence to damage or remove
any mature trees on private property without council approval.
Last month, WA Planning Minister John Carey said he hoped
the Shire of Peppermint Grove would ‘take a common sense approach’ to the issue.
‘This is part of the challenge that we do have with
local government. I’ve always been on the
record that we need local governments to take a common sense approach to issues,’ Mr Carey told the West Australian.
‘And I understand people are passionate about trees.
But ultimately, we do need local governments to assess the situation and find pragmatic outcomes.’
According to the online listing for the four-bedroom, four-bathroom mansion — which is built on a
corner block along the banks of the Swan River — the sprawling Federation-style property was built in around 1904.

The home boast an unparalleled view of the Swan River overlooking Fresh Water Bay

The boss of the tobacco giant behind the iconic Marlboro Man said a date should be set
to ban cigarettes.
Jacek Olczak, chief executive of Philip Morris International
(PMI), has made it his mission to make old-style gaspers a thing of the past — and he
says cigarettes should be replaced by alternatives such as vapes.
Since 2016, the company, which is best known for brands such as
Marlboro and Chesterfield, has been trying to transform itself from the world’s biggest tobacco firm into a scientific
hub that can help smokers quit for good.
It has invested more than £8.5billion in this ‘smoke-free future’ — from research papers to
promotion of new products.
Olczak believes that a move on cigarettes similar to the combustion engine would have to be on a timescale that
gives consumers and the industry time to respond and change.

Olczak was himself a smoker for two decades until he tried the brand’s IQOS

starter kit.
Products such as heated tobacco and e-vapes now account for nearly 35pc of total annual revenues at
PMI.
And the Polish businessman, who wants the company to become a so-called ‘ESG’ stock that qualifies to be included in funds that invest
on environmental, social and governance principles, said government action would help to speed up
the switch.
New petrol and diesel cars and vans will be banned in the UK from 2030 — forcing manufacturers
to produce green alternatives and putting pressure on drivers to go green.

Olczak, 58, also drew an analogy with the switch to energy-saving lightbulbs.
‘In different countries they had a number of
investment schemes to promote research and development to see whether you
can produce light with much less energy,’ he said.
The main thrust of Olczak’s argument is that governments could reduce smoking and
the costs to health services if they supported tobacco companies like PMI to research alternatives which are less damaging to health — while setting a deadline for banning traditional cigarettes.

There could be a tenfold reduction in deaths linked to smoking if smokers fully switched to smoke-free products, based on World Health Organisation data.
In the past, PMI — whose brand was advertised by the Marlboro Man from the 1950s to the
late 1990s — has fought lawsuits that alleged it
hid the dangers associated with smoking.
But Olczak, who became chief executive in 2021 after decades at PMI,
said the business has fundamentally changed — so much so that cigarettes now, in his view,
‘belong in museums’.
Speaking at a recent event in London, Olczak said: ‘When governments — and organisations that lobby them — prevent men and women who continue to smoke from accessing
less harmful alternatives, and when they perpetuate misinformation about these products, it has a direct correlation to the persistence of
smoking.
‘It’s time for anti-tobacco organisations to stop fighting against us and start fighting for
adults who smoke.’
He praised Sweden and Japan for their approach to smoking alternatives in contrast with Brazil and Singapore, which have banned certain less
harmful options.
PMI’s sales of cigarettes are still strong in the Middle East, Africa,
south-east Asia and the Americas.

The thread began with a question from user u/Fantastic-Ant-4429, who asked:

upvoted responses, Huffpost reported.
Reddit user u/ElPresidente714 admitted to trying to have sex
in the desert at night when coming back from Vegas.

Another, u/DonSmitty said a ‘buddy in high school’ covered his girlfriend
(including her genitals) in chocolate syrup. But it

Which is how we find ourselves sitting in a rather handsome — albeit near empty —
dining room, lusciously lavish, under the stern gaze of a stern painting of
a very stern man. The soft, crepuscular gloom is broken up
by the glare of table lamps, indecorously bright,
while a loud soundtrack of indolent, indeterminate beats
throbs in the background. The whole place is scented with gilded
ennui.
Our fellow diners are two young South Korean women of pale,
luminescent beauty, clad in diaphanous couture. They don’t speak, rather communicate entirely via camera phone.
Pose, click, check, filter, post. Immaculate waiters hover in the shadows.
We sip ice-cold vodka, and eat a £77 caviar and smoked-salmon Kaspia croque monsieur that tastes far better than it ought to.
Next door, a large table fills with a glut of the noisily, glossily confident.
We’re looked after by a wonderful French lady of such
effervescent charm and charisma that had she burst into an impromptu performance of ‘Willkommen’, we would have
barely blinked. Baked potatoes, skin as crisp as parchment, insides
whipped savagely hard with butter and sour cream, are a study in tuber art.
A cool jet-black splodge of oscietra caviar, gently saline, raises them to the sublime.
Only the price, at just under £150 each, is ridiculous.
But there are few better dishes on earth.
I’d eat this every day if I could. But I can’t. Obviously.
That’s the problem with caviar. One taste is never
enough.

ANGELA HARTNETT’S BEEF & VEAL MEATBALLS
Meatballs are super-quick to make for a weeknight supper and there are many ways to serve them (see tip).
The veal in these gives a lightness to the result, but you can swap it out for all beef, or flavourful pork mince.
This is a good way to use up any day-old bread hanging around.
The recipe is easy to double up on and freeze
so you have a meal for an emergency.
SERVES 4
4 tbsp olive oil, plus extra for the onion
1 onion, finely chopped
2 garlic cloves, chopped
400g tin chopped tomatoes
200g white bread (day old, if possible)
whole milk (enough to soak the bread)
500g beef mince
250g English veal mince
2 tbsp finely grated parmesan, plus extra to serve
4 anchovies, finely chopped
2 tbsp chopped flat-leaf parsley
salt and freshly ground black pepper
350g dried spaghetti, to serve (optional; see tip)
1 First make a tomato sauce. In a saucepan,
heat a dash of olive oil over a medium heat,
then add half the chopped onion and half the garlic, then sauté for 10 minutes
to soften. Add the tomatoes and when the liquid starts to bubble, reduce to
a simmer and leave to cook, stirring occasionally (about 20 minutes,
to create a thick sauce), while you make the meatballs.
2 In a bowl, soak the bread in the milk until soft. In another bowl,
mix the beef, veal, parmesan, anchovies, half the parsley and the
rest of the onions and garlic. Then add the soaked bread, lightly squeezing any
excess milk from it first. Mix well and season with salt and pepper.
Mould the mixture into 12-14 meatballs.
3 Put the 4 tablespoons of olive oil in a large frying
pan over a medium heat. When hot, add the meatballs, turning (for about 5 minutes) to ensure they colour all over.
If necessary, cook in batches so they are not all
squashed together, setting each batch aside on a
plate while you cook the remainder.
4 To finish, remove the meatballs from the pan and set aside.
Pour the tomato sauce into the frying pan over a medium heat.
Put the meatballs back into the pan for a further 4-5 minutes
to cook through. Sprinkle with the remaining parsley before serving.
TIP You can serve the meatballs as they come, or on top of spaghetti.
If you would prefer the latter, cook the pasta according
to the packet instructions until al dente. Drain it in a colander,
reserving a cupful of the cooking water to loosen the meatball
sauce if necessary, and then transfer it back to the
pan and toss it with a little olive oil and butter. Put the spaghetti
on a serving plate and top with the meatballs and sauce. Finish with a drizzle of olive oil and a sprinkle of
parmesan.

The follow-up to the Oscar-winning 2019 film, starring Joaquin Phoenix as Arthur Fleck (Joker)
and Lady Gaga as Lee Quinzel (Harley Quinn), faced negative reviews
from critics before its October 4 release and flopped at the
box office

It’s not even hate-watchable. That’s how terrible it is.’
Despite the negative reviews a number of fans of the sequel took to social media after its release last month to defend the sequel to Todd Phillips’ 2019 motion picture.
The film debuted to a paltry $40 million at the domestic box office,
good enough for the weekend’s top spot, but less than projections,
and half that of its predecessor.
Amid the early returns, a number of fans took up for the movie and its cinematic depth, in breaking away from the cookie cutter nature of sequels to introduce
a musical element not present in the first film, with Lady Gaga joining the franchise.
‘Joker 2 was amazing,’ one user said, adding that it was ‘100%
as divisive as people are making it out to be.
I love that the film didn’t try to be a traditional sequel,
and fully committed to the storytelling they presented.
It never deviated to be a film full of Easter eggs or any other
crowd pleasing aspects.’
